Thick air at FSV Mainz 05: According to information from the "Bild" newspaper and the Mainzer "Allgemeine Zeitung", the Bundesliga team's professionals refused to train in the afternoon.
The reason for the players' strike is said to be the suspension of striker Adam Szalai on Monday.
The team should demand the withdrawal of the expulsion.
The 32-year-old Hungarian was released from training with immediate effect.
According to "Bild", Szalai showed up for the athletic unit on Wednesday morning, which he was not allowed to complete with the team.
As a result, the 05 professionals did not appear on the pitch in the afternoon.
The association initially did not comment on the incident.
"We told Adam that he will no longer play a role in our sporting plans," said the Mainz sports director Rouven Schröder on Tuesday: "We are of the opinion that it therefore makes sense for him to completely reorient himself to look for a new club. "
Szalai returned to Mainz in 2019.
Under Tomas Tuchel, he was one of the top performers in the team in 2010, which had even led the table in the first half of the season: Szalai, Andre Schürrle and Lewis Holtby were the so-called "Bruchweg Boys" at the time.
