FC Bayern Munich has won the European Supercup for the second time.

In the duel of the Champions League winners against the Europa League winners FC Sevilla, FC Bayern prevailed after extra time 2: 1 (1: 1, 1: 1).

The goals for Munich were scored by Leon Goretzka (34th minute) and Javi Martínez (104th).

Lucas Ocampos scored for the Spaniards (13th / penalty).

Back in 2013, after the triple of the Champions League, championship and DFB Cup, Munich also won the Supercup.

Against Chelsea FC it was also extended.

And even then it was Martínez who saved the team in the 120th + 1 minute by equalizing the penalty shoot-out that Bayern won.

The fact that this game took place at all had caused criticism in advance, as the European Football Union Uefa stuck to Budapest and thus to a staging in a current corona risk area.

After months of ghost games in the Bundesliga, the Munich team also competed in front of an audience in the Puskas Arena for the first time.

According to official information, 15,000 tickets had been sold.

Numerous Bayern fans had canceled their orders in the past few days.

Six days after the impressive 8: 0 at the Bundesliga opener against Schalke 04, FC Sevilla made it much more difficult for the German champions.

After a penalty, Bayern fell behind early.

David Alaba had slightly checked Ivan Rakitic to the side when accepting the ball in the six-yard box, Ocampos then inserted the due penalty in the lower left (13th).

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer jumped into the right corner.

As a result, a previously even game developed more and more one-sided.

The first chance had Thomas Müller, who shot a low cross from Robert Lewandowski to the left of the gate (24th).

Shortly afterwards, Benjamin Pavard (26th) moved from an acute angle, Lewandowski in turn failed because of Seville goalkeeper Bono (30th).

But then Müller brought the ball back into the penalty area in the 34th minute, Lewandowski dropped for Goretzka - and Bayern had equalized before the break (34th).

Neuer saves with hand and foot

In the second half, too, numerous Bayern chances were initially missed.

In fact, the ball even landed in the opponent's goal twice (53rd, 66th).

But both times referee Anthony Taylor had the whistle, once for offside, the second time for a foul.

Seville, meanwhile, was waiting for one chance - which should arise in the 87th.

But Manuel Neuer steered the conclusion of Youssef En-Nesyri past the gate and thus prevented the first competitive defeat since December 2019.

In the first few minutes of extra time, it was again Neuer who saved against En-Nesyri and directed his shot with the tip of his foot to the post (92nd).

But then Hansi Flick brought Martínez into play for Luca Hernández in the 99th minute.

And in what might be his last game for FC Bayern, he made the decisive goal of the Supercup victory (104th).

Martínez is expected to join his ex-club Athletic Bilbao in the coming days.
