Suárez transfer to Atlético announced
Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez is moving from FC Barcelona to Spanish league rivals Atlético Madrid.
The Catalans receive a little more than five million euros in transfer for Suarez, as the clubs announced on Thursday night.
The change does not come as a surprise: In Barcelona, the new coach Ronald Koeman had no longer planned with Suárez.
The Catalans wanted to cut their wage costs because of the coronavirus pandemic.
"FC Barcelona would like to publicly thank Luis Suárez for his commitment and dedication and wish him all the best for the future," Barcelona said in a statement.
The center forward says goodbye as the third most successful goalscorer in Barça's history.
In 283 missions he scored 198 goals for the club, plus 109 assists.
Together with Lionel Messi and Neymar, he once formed one of the most dangerous attack lines in recent football history, the trio "MSN" led Barcelona to the 2015 Champions League title.
The 33-year-old left the Catalans training ground for the last time in tears on Wednesday afternoon.
For a long time, there was also a move from Suarez to Serie A club Juventus, from which the Turin team then refrained from.

Will Philipp return to the Bundesliga?
VfB Stuttgart is said to be interested in signing the former BVB professional Maximilian Philipp.

According to "Bild", Moscow has already submitted an initial offer for Thommy.
Philipp moved from SC Freiburg to Borussia Dortmund for 20 million euros in the summer of 2017.
There he had 19 goals in 51 appearances in two years before he moved to Dinamo.
