After the US Open, Philipp Kohlschreiber was eliminated in the first round of the French Open

Philipp Kohlschreiber is the only one from the German men's quintet who failed in the first round of the French Open in Paris.

The 36-year-old lost to number 20 seeded Chilean Cristian Garin 4: 6, 6: 4, 1: 6, 6: 4.

After almost three hours of play in continuous rain, Garin turned his first match ball against Augsburg.

Kohlschreiber was eliminated in the first round of the US Open.

Before Kohlschreiber, Alexander Zverev, Dominik Koepfer, Daniel Altmaier and Jan-Lennard Struff had all won their opening games at the Stade Roland Garros.

"Come on, now"

Laura Siegemund, meanwhile, managed a comeback victory, making her the first German player to advance to the second round.

The 32-year-old prevailed against the French Kristina Mladenovic 7: 5, 6: 3, while in the first set she made up a 1: 5 deficit and fended off seven set balls.

"Come on, now", cheered the Swabian in the middle of the second set, before using her first match point after 2:02 hours.

Angelique Kerber, Andrea Petkovic, Anna-Lena Friedsam and Tamara Korpatsch had previously lost their opening games.

The Ukrainian Katarina Zavatska only played the second match in a Grand Slam main draw at the French Open - and in the end she ran out of clubs.
