The former PSG forward, who was entrusted with the emblematic number 7 of George Best, King Cantona, David Beckham or Cristiano Ronaldo, says he is honored by the responsibility entrusted to him by Manchester United.

Days after arriving, Edinson Cavani admits he is happy to take on the challenge of playing in the Premier League and is confident he can handle the pressure of wearing Manchester United's iconic No.7 shirt.

MU's new recruit, who left Ligue 1 champions PSG after his contract expired at the end of last season, joined United for free, signing a one-year contract with a 12-month extension option additional.

He will wear the No. 7 jersey previously worn by Manchester United's greatest players: George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham or Cristiano Ronaldo.

Very proud to be part of this great team and looking forward to wear this beautiful shirt.

A great responsibility

“I know that once you're on the pitch, the number you have on your jersey doesn't matter,” said the 33-year-old forward.

But when you have the chance to put on the No. 7 shirt at United ... it's really a great responsibility to have.

I hope I can honor him and live up to the many great players who have worn him before me.

"

Cavani has scored 200 goals in 301 appearances for PSG and left the champions of France as the all-time top scorer.

The Uruguayan hopes to have similar success in England.

"For me, it's a real honor and a new challenge, which really excites me a lot."

In an interview published yesterday on the official website of his new club, Edinson Cavani confirmed his impatience to step onto the lawns of the Premier League, in particular that of the Old Trafford stadium: “I can not wait to take my first steps in this stadium.

The Premier League is already unique but Manchester United, on a global scale, represents something even more unique and incredible, so I can't wait to put on this shirt and get on the pitch.

It's getting closer and closer.

I want to start, first by training with my teammates, then being available for the team and for the coach. ”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, who are 16th in the table, will face Newcastle United on October 17 when they resume the league after the international break.
