Brazil is in turmoil following Robinho's comeback to Santos.

The 36-year-old striker signed tonight (between Saturday and Sunday) with his youth team for five months and returned for a fourth term on the team - but this time many fewer fans, commentators and public figures welcomed him with open arms.

A heavy cloud hovers over the head of the wayward star, who was once compared to Pele and is considered one of the most exciting footballers in the world.

In 2017, he was convicted in Italy of aggravated rape of a 22-year-old woman, which was carried out in association with five other men.

Robinho was sentenced to nine years in prison, but thanks broke laws in Italy and Brazil, he was released from custody and will begin serving his sentence - if at all - only after his appeal is discussed in court higher in Italy, which is expected to take years, and in any case not scheduled for completion until 2022.

According to The description of the indictment, Robinho met a young woman of Albanian descent at a nightclub in Milan, convinced her to come to his glorious house when her condition and clarity were unclear, and there raped her along with five of his friends.

This was not the first time Robinho had been charged with sexual assault: in 2009, while a promising player at Manchester City, a young Englishwoman complained of being sexually assaulted at a pub in Leeds.

The case was eventually closed for lack of evidence, but Robinho did not learn the lesson.

His joining Santos is also controversial because of the club's past, which has taken part in anti-violence projects against women.

President Jose Carlos Perez declared in 2017: "Promoting women's rights is a top priority for our club. We have a group of women who intend to turn it into an empire at least as much as the men's group."

But Santos' move (by the way, will pay Robinho meager sums. According to reports, she will pay him a few tens of euros a month) proves that the situation is different.

By the way, the timing of the move is also unhappy - only yesterday Brazil marked the anniversary of awareness of violence against women.

"Before Robinho was convicted of rape, I was a big fan of ours," said TV commentator Rape Pilot.

"But once he is convicted in court, after such unequivocal evidence has been gathered against him, he must be condemned. His signing encourages violence. This restraint is a dangerous message for future generations."

"When a woman accuses a well-known figure of sexual assault or rape, they say she is trying to end his career. Well, it turns out not. Fact - Robinho was convicted of rape in Italy, and now he is returning to Santos."

The 36-year-old Robinho is considered one of the great promises of Brazilian football in the current generation.

He was acquired by Real Madrid from Santos in 2005 on the standard of the next big star of world football, but alongside exciting abilities on the pitch, he showed low work ethic and a lot of disciplinary offenses.

In 2008 he moved to Manchester City, then continued for five years in Milan, during which the media case against him was conducted.

He has also played for Guangzhou Abergrande, Atletico Mineiro and for the past two years for Turkish side Sibaspur and Shakshair.
