Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta announced his retirement from football today, ending his 18-year career.
Zabaleta, 35, after leaving West Ham United at the end of last season, decided to close the curtain on his career, despite expectations of a possible return to Espanyol.
Zabaleta, a former Argentina defender, spent nine years at City after joining from Espanyol in 2008, playing 333 matches and scoring 12 goals.
Zabalita was one of City's most prominent defenders, as the team won two Premier League titles and two League Cup titles in addition to the FA Cup in 2011, and played 58 matches for Argentina.
