At home the Gladiators lost 5: 6 after extra time against Kempten.

But there was a 6-2 away win in Schweinfurt.

Erding - These are days that you don't often experience as an ice hockey player: You have an important away game in front of your chest, it feels like the squad is decreasing from hour to hour for various reasons, so that in the end you only have ten before one of the longest away trips Standing there - and in the end celebrate a grand victory.

This is exactly what the Erding Gladiators managed to do over the weekend.

When the final siren sounded in the Schweinfurt ice rink on Sunday evening, the cheering of the gladiators knew no bounds, and the pumped-out players could hardly bring the grin off their faces.

The Mighty Dogs mini squad won 6-2 and bagged three incredibly important points.

The Erdinger ice hackers were pretty bent on Friday after the 5-6 home defeat after extra time against a strong ESC Kempten, they didn't know whether they had won one point or lost two.

Kempten led 1: 0 and 2: 1, the Gladiators were 3: 2 and 4: 3 in front, but then fell 4: 5 behind.

The equalizer by triple goalscorer Daniel Krzizok fell 71 seconds before the end, 51 seconds after the start of extra time, Kempten scored the winning goal.

"I knew about the strength of the opponent and the strength of number 10, Nikolas Oppenberger, who was clearly the match winner, we never got him under control," stated Erding's coach Thomas Vogl.

The Sharks' top striker scored twice, including outnumbered, prepared a goal and was the most conspicuous player among the guests.

Oppenberger's performance also highlighted Kempten's coach Carsten Gosdeck.

"It was a fast-paced game with lots of chances to score," he said.

"But the decisive point was the Oppi, what he did again: He made two-minute changes and then scored goals." In the end, it was little things that decided the game.

“Ultimately, I was torn back and forth,” said Vogl.

"On the one hand we played well, but on the other hand we also made mistakes and took stupid penalties." His team had "luckily saved one point".

Two days later, Erdings gang boss beamed over both ears, but his mini-squad had kidnapped three points from Schweinfurt with a 6: 2, although it hadn't looked like it at first.

After less than two minutes, the Mighty Dogs took the lead, after a quarter of an hour they had bad luck with a post-shot, before the game tipped over and the gladiators pulled away to 6: 1.

"I am very, very happy," said Vogl in the press conference.

“A big compliment to my team, who played tactically disciplined for 60 minutes.” They would have acted exactly as one would have to play if one could only compete with so few leaders: “Close the neutral zone, destroy the opponent's game, counterattack. “The team implemented it one hundred percent.

Vogl's conclusion: “I am very proud and happy.” You could see that in him.

Corona fear: Ulm does not go to Waldkraiburg - and Erding almost does not go to Schweinfurt

A game cancellation in the Bayernliga caused heated discussions.

VfE Ulm / Neu-Ulm had informed the EHC on Sunday afternoon, a few hours before the game kicked off in Waldkraiburg, that they would not compete.

On the Devils homepage it says: "In view of a seven-day incidence value of 107.9 (RKI, October 18, 2020, 12:00 a.m.) in the Mühldorf am Inn district, the coaching team and the board, together with the players of VfE Ulm / Neu-Ulm decided not to play against the top team from Waldkraiburg for today's game.

We hope that the association and opponents understand this decision and agree to a postponement. ”All VfE players played ice hockey as amateurs and were involved full-time in their main occupation or as trainees / students.

Especially for teachers and educators in the team, but also for trainees and students in the current examination phase, knowledgeable driving and playing in a risk area represent "a risk that cannot be calculated at the moment," according to those responsible in Ulm.

Now the Bavarian Ice Sports Association is asked whether it reschedules the game or scores 5-0 goals and three points for Waldkraiburg.

Of course, the decision from Ulm also made the rounds for the Erdinger ice hackers just before they left for Schweinfurt.

Voices were loud not to run because the incidence value in the Lower Franconian city is over 50.

“There was intense discussion in the dressing room,” said Gladiators trainer Thomas Vogl in the press conference after the Schweinfurt game.

Despite the shortage of personnel, he gave the players the option of not driving.

"The majority of us decided that we would go here," emphasized the coach, adding that a player did not go, which he respects.
