Rafi Cohen heard Willie Rotensteiner's criticism of Ophir Marciano yesterday and did not fall off his feet.

Today as the goalkeeping coach of MS.

Ashdod probably has more empathy and understanding on the side of those who stand on the lines and usually absorb all the fire from the media.

"I think it was a matter-of-fact and unflattering criticism," the former national goalkeeper said today.

"It's true that coaches can choose not to talk about players personally, but I do not think Ophir should take it hard because Willy put his trust in him last month and also in the games now and even after the goal he got from a serious mistake against the Czech Republic, he let him open against Slovakia. "Rotensteiner has given Ophir a good back and Ophir certainly appreciates it."

To many, Rotensteiner's criticism reminded me of the same words of Shlomo Sharaf about Rafi Cohen after the game against Spain more than twenty years ago.

"Everyone was shocked by things then, but I took it relatively lightly. At least at first. You forget that Shlomo discovered me and gave me the chance. He supported me and accompanied his career and I owe him a lot. Moreover, we were also used to hearing Shlomo Talks like that about us in training so I was not too excited.

How will he deal with the criticism?

"The thing is that the media celebrated about it and it gained momentum and we became such an issue and then it also seeped into the family and hit me at Maccabi Tel Aviv where I played at that time. Maccabi was not in a good period either so I lost my place there. What I do not remember is that after that I moved to Hapoel Fatah Hope and within a month I took my place in the national team again with Richard Nielsen who replaced Shlomo.

"While I continued to play for many more years, it was Shlomo who ended his coaching career after the team.

I think Shlomo was hurt more than I was by the things he said.

Unfortunately from a career as rich and respectable as I had, I only remember that game against Spain and the things Shlomo said about me at the end of the game.

Anyway Shlomo and I stayed in a good relationship and I will never forget what he did for me.

He also recently invited me to the friendly match against Brazil.

I really appreciate and respect Shlomo. "

How did you feel when you saw Ofir Marciano absorb the two goals through his fault?

" Obviously my heart went out to him because I understand very well what he feels and what it is like to be a goalkeeper when you are the last stop and no one can cover you.

But Ophir needs to raise his head.

He's on the team thanks and I would not be surprised if he also stands at the end of the gate next month.

We have a problem because Ariel Harush does not play for any team and Itamar Nitzan came to the squad when Betar Jerusalem hardly played this season. I saw Itamar in a training match against us in Ashdod and he was very good. It seems to me that he should be taken into account next month. "Big people like David Siman and Fabian Bartz were wrong in big classes, so nothing happened."

"I really appreciate and respect Shlomo."

We used to know who the goalkeeper of the team is.

Bonnie Ginzburg, Rafi Cohen, Nir Davidovich, Dudu Awat.

What is happening to us in this position?

"I think even today there are very good goalkeepers who need to get more confidence and trust from the system. Omri Glazer entered the goal of Maccabi Haifa at a very young age and I know what pressure is in this club. He needs to get more trust from the system and he will be a good goalkeeper. I think in Ashdod we have "Roi Mishpati and Yoav Jerfi, who should be taken into account for the future after the generation of Marciano and Hemlock."

So there is no problem?

"Obviously we can expect better goalkeepers and for that I suggest two things. The first is that like in China, only Israeli goalkeepers can stand in the goal in the Premier League and the second that past goalkeepers will receive normal salaries and come to work in youth goalkeeping departments. I heard Giora Antman started working in Hapoel Ramat's youth department "Garden and I was very happy. This is a welcome step and I hope that many more will come. Just give them respectable salaries."
