With five gold medals, Martin Fourcade is already the most successful Frenchman at the Olympics.
But his record could become even harder to beat.
Russian biathlete Evgeny Ustyugov has again been suspended for doping, this time following the analysis of his biological passport, the International Biathlon Federation (IBU) announced on Tuesday, which canceled all his results obtained between 2010 and 2014.
The French Martin Fourcade, second in the mass start of the Vancouver Games in 2010 behind Ustyugov, could thus recover a sixth Olympic title.
Evgeny Ustyugov has 21 days to appeal.
Last February, the Russian had already seen his Olympic medal in relay biathlon, acquired at the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014, withdrawn. He was then sanctioned for having used oxandrolone, a steroid.
Ustyugov stopped his career in 2014.
Martin Fourcade retired last March after a final victorious race.
