Despair grows - Schrötter only lands in 20th place - he leaves no stone unturned before the end of the season

Instead of going uphill, Marcel Schrötter took a step back last weekend.

The desperation at the Vilgertshofener grows.

- It should represent a new low point for Marcel Schrötter in this overall unfortunate season.

In the second Moto2 race in Alcaniz, Spain, the Vilgertshofener did not get past 20th place.

Only three drivers that made it to the finish were slower than him.

Schrötter crossed the finish line 31.501 seconds later as winner Sam Lowes.

"I can hardly bear to be overtaken by people I normally never see in a race," said the 27-year-old after the Grand Prix in Aragón, where he couldn't convince last week.

"I have no explanation for driving around out there like I'm sitting on a motorcycle for the first time."

A brief ray of hope in qualifying

On Saturday in the first qualifying there was a brief ray of hope for the Kalex driver.

Second place meant moving into the next session.

There he only came in 16th place, but the feeling was good.

At the latest during the warm-up before the race on Sunday, his optimism was gone.

During the interview on the grid, the Vilgertshofener's dissatisfaction was clearly noticeable.

He started the race from 16th place, but didn't manage to push himself forward on the first lap.

For Tom Lüthi, his team-mate at "Liqui Moly Intact GP", the Grand Prix ended after just a few meters.

What Schrötter was missing on Sunday was speed.

"Normally our motorcycle is one of the fastest in the field." In Alcaniz, however, it was even overtaken on the straight.

Also lost places in the overall ranking

The 27-year-old slipped back to 21st place during the race.

After a driver in front of him had retired, the worst result of the season remained with 20th place if Schrötter had reached the goal.

There were no World Championship points for it, which several opponents used and overtook him in the overall standings.

Schrötter is 13th there with 61 points.

The lead in the world championship was taken by Sam Lowes (178 points).

The Brit won his third race in a row.

Also on the podium were Fabio Di Giannantonio and Enea Bastianini, second in the World Cup (171).

Marcel Schrötter now has two weeks to find himself again.

Then the kick-off for the last three races of the season, which are held on consecutive weekends, will take place in Valencia.

He leaves no stone unturned for this.

“For some time now I've been working more with my mental coach.

So I try everything I can to ensure that my head is fully focused and optimally prepared, ”he says.
