For more than an hour, Paris was threatened with a potentially fatal false start to this Champions League season.
Then Moise Kean scored 1-0 in Istanbul (64th minute) and enabled PSG to score three points that were almost certainly planned.
Basaksehir is Turkish champion, but inexperienced at the top level - and not exactly in good shape.
In the league, the team is only eleventh after six match days.
With the away win, Paris scored its first points in Group H. The rivals Leipzig and Manchester United play against each other at 9 p.m.
PSG will be satisfied with the result - but probably only with that.
In the first half, superstar Neymar had to be replaced injured (27th).
At the front, Kylian Mbappé is still waiting for a sense of achievement in the premier class, since he has not scored a goal in seven games.
And defensively, the finalist from the previous season allowed several dangerous degrees.
Basaksehir's Edin Visca in particular did not always have the Paris defense under control, later Deniz Türüc just missed the equalizer (71.).
It was thanks to Kean that PSG managed to win.
The 20-year-old Italian, on loan from Everton in the summer, scored after a presentation by Mbappé: first he headed the 1-0 after a corner, then he hit the spin (79th).
In his fourth appearance for PSG it was his goals three and four.
The game initially focused on Krasnodar's goalkeeper Matwei Safonov, and twice: he was lucky the first time, the second time - rather not.
First Safonov faced shooter Jorginho in a penalty for Chelsea (Timo Werner was fouled).
The Italian, who was considered very safe from the point, shot the ball to the left inside post, from where it bounced parallel to the goal line towards the center - and flew against the back of Safonov, who was just getting off the ground.
He probably didn't quite know what was happening to him, but survived the scene without conceding a goal.
That changed in the 37th minute when Callum Husdon-Odoi fired an actually unplaced shot - and then saw how goalkeeper Safonow did not save the ball, but steered it into the goal.
Chelsea, in addition to Werner also with Kai Havertz and, for the first time this season, Antonio Rüdiger in the team, had a harder time than one should have expected.
The fourth place in the table in the previous Premier League season did not create many chances, nor did he always defend confidently.
Chelsea were lucky after 55 minutes when Krasnodar's Yuri Gazinskiy missed the crossbar from a corner.
With the 2-0, however, again with a penalty and this time scored by Werner, the game was decided (76th).
Hakim Ziyech (80th) and the substitute Christian Pulisic (90th) ensured the final score.
With four points from two games, Chelsea are now leaders in Group E, in which Sevilla and Rennes will play against each other in the evening.
