The owners of the NBA team Utah Jazz sold the team for $ 1.66 billion to businessman Ryan Smith, the founder of CoalTrix.

Smith, 40, a Utah resident and a longtime fan of jazz, founded Qualtrix (a survey and analytics company) and sold it in 2018 for $ 8 billion.

He used to donate large sums of money to the group, and even raised a lot of money for it.

The current owners of the Utah Jazz, the Miller family, have owned the team for 35 years, during which they recorded successes: 16 seasons of 50 wins, two Western champions, and since 1989/90 only San Antonio has had a better balance in the West.

The Jazz have qualified for the playoffs four seasons in a row, hoping to make the upgrade under the new owner.

The deal is in positive news for Commissioner Adam Silver, who sees how the value of teams in the American Basketball League continues to rise to heights and highs - despite the difficult season the league went through under the Corona crisis.

The "bubble" in Orlando is considered a success, and the fact is that despite the decline in revenue and the decline in ratings, businessmen believe in the league and its potential under his management.

The Miller family (77-year-old Gail Miller and her late husband Larry) bought the group in the 1980s for about $ 30 million.

She remained committed to Utah, and prevented her from moving to another city, when there were great fears that it was going to happen.

The deal needs to be approved by the league's management, but Gail Miller wrote today: "I have known Ryan for many years, and appreciate his and his family's values. They are connected to the city and the team .... "My family and I have decided that after 35 years it is the right time to transfer responsibility and ownership to Rio and his wife Ashley, who are committed to Utah. We are confident that they will continue the work and effort we have put in and take the team to the next level."
