English football mourns the loss of Nobby Stiles.
According to his family, the 1966 world champion died on Friday at the age of 78 after a long illness.
Stiles (28 international matches) had shown a strong performance in the Wembley World Cup final against Germany (4: 2 nV), after the final whistle he danced on the field with the trophy in one hand and his denture in the other.
He became known as a toothless, tough, fearless midfielder - he played for Manchester United, Middlesbrough FC and the first English champions Preston North End, whom he later coached.
Stiles had already survived cancer and suffered from dementia.
Years ago he was too sick to take part in the 50th anniversary of the 1966 world championship team.
Captain Bobby Moore, Alan Ball, Ray Wilson, goalkeeper Gordon Banks, Martin Peters and Jack Charlton died from the starting eleven.
