FC Bayern Munich and his head of defense David Alaba may go their separate ways at the end of the season.
President Herbert Hainer said on Bavarian television on Sunday evening that the German record champions had withdrawn their offer to extend the contract that expired at the end of the season.
The triple winner had previously informed the Austrian international and his advisors that they wanted to reach some agreement by the end of October.
Alaba's contract in Munich expires in summer 2021.
After FC Bayern had not received an answer by Saturday, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic "actively checked again" with Alaba's advisors, Hainer said on the show Blickpunkt Sport.
"The answer was that the offer is still unsatisfactory and that we should think further. We then decided to take the offer off the table completely - that is, there is no more offer," said the president, who has been in office for a year Munich.
Alaba has been playing for Munich since 2009 and was only interrupted by a short loan to TSG Hoffenheim.
Under Hansi Flick, the 28-year-old became the central player in central defense and in this position he was decisive for the Munich Champions League victory at the end of August.

Alaba could now leave Munich for free next summer.
"We want planning security for such an important position and personnel," said Hainer.
He stressed that the club's offer was "very good, very fair, competitive".
In the course of the negotiations, some of which were held publicly, Honorary President Uli Hoeneß, among others, referred to adviser Pini Zahavi as a "piranha" and verbally attacked Alaba's father, George.
Hainer said that Bayern would have to deal with a successor to Alaba.
"Of course, we also have to plan for the future."
In the previous transfer window, Munich had already signed Tanguy Nianzou Kouassi from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 18-year-old is considered one of the most talented central defenders in Europe.
In addition, FC Bayern has another potential Alaba successor in the team, Lucas Hernández - who played a minor role in the preseason due to injuries.
