Ryan Giggs was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his partner Kate Garville.
Police were called to the home of the Wales national team coach in Beverly shortly after 10pm on Sunday evening following reports of "disruptions".
Giggs, 46, was questioned on suspicion of assault and assault.
A Manchester police spokesman responded to the incident, saying: "Police were called at 10:05 p.m. due to reports of disturbances in the area. A woman in her 30s suffered several injuries to her body but did not need treatment. A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and causing sabotage."
