Willingen / Isen - With a brilliant final spurt, Tim Geist, with fighting strength and a bit of luck, moved from midfield to 14th place of the 58 participants in the German individual chess championship for ten-year-olds.

That makes Isner the best Bavarian participant.

The organizers in Willingen, North Hesse, pulled the tournament through shortly before the lockdown.

It is certainly not an easy task to comply with the hygiene regulations in ten age groups (U 10 / U 12 / U 14 / U 16 / U18, male and female adolescents separately).

In order to be able to host the title fights at all, each national association had to determine who was allowed to travel.

As reported, Geist was in midfield after four rounds with 2-2 points.

Luck for him in round five: There he was a minor figure behind after no intoxicating performance, but was able to save himself into continuous chess with a rook sacrifice.

With a powerful game he defeated his opponent in the next game.

And the Isener also successfully contested the last lap.

This showed that he had learned from his defeat in the second round.

If he had lost the pawn final there through gross mistakes, he confidently led a similar final to victory in the final round.

In the end, the young talent from the Erding district achieved 4.5: 2.5 points.

The other Bavarian participants were Constantin Stichter from Prien (3.5 points, 29th place), Sebastian Blumenthal-Tuset from Graefelfing (2.5 / 45th) and Noah Kamleiter from Bindlach (2.5 / 49th).

So overall a rather mediocre result for Bayern.

"Tim's performance is all the more remarkable as he did not enjoy any special preparation for the tournament," explains his sponsor Rupert Prediger.

“His competitors trained two to four hours a day for the tournament, sometimes with very strong players who were paid for it.

Tim would like to train more now, too, so that he can continue to mix with the Germans. ”Pr
