In April 2017, the 36-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic, then a Manchester United player, tore the cruciate ligament in his knee during a game against Anderlecht in the Europa League.

The Swedish star's absence period lasted nine months, and many, including the doctors, assumed that the Ibrahimovic legend was over.

But Zlatan had other plans, and he returned to play for the Red Devils, from there he moved to MLS and today he continues to punch holes in Serie A nets in the Milan uniform.

Zlatan's miraculous comeback at an advanced age in terms of professional football players, probably at the levels the player faces, has led researchers at the Medical School in Pittsburgh, USA to try to figure out how that is possible.

"His knee is so strong, the doctors said they had never seen anything like it," Zlatan's agent Mino Raiola told Swedish media.

"For a professional footballer who has a 20-year career, it is almost impossible for his knee to be in such a state. She is 'clean,' and she has suffered almost no damage."

The super agent shared that Pittsburgh investigators have expressed interest in continuing to examine Zlatan after his career ends.

"They research a lot on the subject, and they know better than anyone," Raiola said.

"The doctors want Zlatan back so they can continue their research on him. After his career is over, he will come back to them so they can continue to examine his ligaments."

Four years since that injury and indeed Zlatan is playing at 39 as if it never happened.

'Ibra' leads the scorers' table in Serie A with seven goals in just four rounds, leading the Rossoneri to first place in the table.

In all, Zlatan has scored eight goals in seven games this season.
