Rosenheim / Weiden - From now on it's all about points!
The Starbulls Rosenheim start on Friday evening with an away game in a curious and adventurous season 2020/21 of the ice hockey Oberliga Süd.
Opponents are the Blue Devils Willows.
The game in the Hans-Schröpf-Arena starts at 8 p.m.
As usual, we will report live from the game.
Curtain up for the so far most unusual
ice hockey season of the Oberliga Süd
!
The 2020/21 season
starts with 13 teams
(Passau and Landsberg are new).
Due to the late start of the season, only
a single round is possible.
The stands in the stadiums must initially remain empty.
From the end of January 2021, the championship round of the top ten will follow.
How things will go on with the teams in positions 11, 12 and 13 is open;
the dovetailing round with the Bayernliga recently had to be shelved because the game has to be suspended until the end of November and the resulting consequences cannot be foreseen.
Nevertheless, many ice hockey fans are looking forward to the coming months, which will be full of ice hockey with many "English weeks". As usual, rosenheim24.de will report on every game in the live ticker.
15 corona cases in Weiden in preparation
For the Starbulls, this unprecedented ice hockey adventure begins on Friday evening with an opponent who
had to make
extreme
experiences with the corona virus
as part of the preparation for the season
.
15 confirmed infections in the squad of the Oberliga team
and more in the junior
teams
made training and test matches impossible for a long time.
The performance of coach Ken Latta's team last weekend was all the more astonishing, when they played their only two preparation games without conceding a goal.
On their own ice, the
blue Teufel Nord-Oberligist Erfurt defeated with 9: 0
, with
league opponents Black Hawks Passau they retained the upper hand with 4: 0
- even though valuable defensive players were missing with Barry Noe, Adam Schusser and Dominik Müller, among others.
Two former Starbulls players at Weiden
How complete the Weiden team will be at the start of the league game is open.
Some players appear to be weakened as a result of their infections.
Striker Martin Heinisch is suspended after receiving a controversial match penalty in the last game of last season in Rosenheim's 3-2 win at the ROFA Stadium.
But Weiden's squad has grown significantly in breadth and depth compared to the previous season.
With
Filius Nick Latta and Adrian Klein
, Weiden's coach - initially limited to mid-December - can also fall back on
two DEL players from the Straubing Tigers
.
Latta's second son Loius moved from Kaufbeuren to the Upper Palatinate.
Other prominent newcomers are the Latvian Edgars Homjakovs (Sonthofen), Dennis Palke (Herne) and Marius Schmidt (Selb).
Philip Lehr (Hanover Indians) and
Luca Endres (Starbulls Rosenheim)
were signed up
for the goalkeeper position
.
Defender
Magnus Enk also moved from the Starbulls to Weiden
.
Michael Baindl is out until mid-December
"Weiden has really strengthened its staff," acknowledges Starbulls coach John Sicinski, who watched both test games of the opening opponent on video and saw a "very, very balanced and homogeneous team".
In all likelihood, both coaches will act with four rows of storms on the Weidener ice on Friday evening, which promises a fast-paced game.
However, John Sicinski has to do without
Michael Baindl
.
The Rosenheim captain will
probably be out until mid-December
due to an upper body injury
that he sustained in the friendly against Peiting.
