Amateur football: towards the end of the championship with the playoffs?

2020-11-29T02:24:46.427Z

After the announcements of the resumption of amateur football on January 20, 2021, the French federation is seriously studying a modification of the

The French football federation fell from a height this Thursday during the speech of the Prime Minister, Jean Castex.

The latter, in fact, indicated that "adults will not be able to resume team and contact sports before January 20."

A recovery that poses a problem for the FFF because it has been working for several days on a calendar to bring the Coupe de France to an end and a playoff formula in order to be able to complete the championships.

From now on, a modification of the formula seems inevitable to avoid ending the season with a ranking in the quotient as in last May.

A system of playoffs and playdowns seduces the federation because it would reduce the season by 8 days on average.

Example in National 2: the teams would first finish the first leg (7 or 8 games) and keep their point.

Then, the first half of the standings would contest the climb playoffs, that is to say a mini-championship of 7 days between the first 8.

The first at the end of this mini-championship would reach National.

The last 8 (from 9th to 16th place) would participate in maintenance playdowns by playing a mini-championship of 7 days between them.

The last 3 of these playdowns would then be relegated to National 3. This system only requires 14 dates instead of 22 if the championships went to their end.

The federation would like to apply this new formula in N2, N3 and in all regional championships.

The District (departmental) championships, often with fewer teams, do not yet pose any scheduling concerns at present.

The validation of a modification of the structure of the championships now requires a decision of the executive committee (Comex) of the FFF which should meet in December.

The clubs and especially the players are in favor of this new formula in France (it exists in Scottish D1).

“Even though we had climbed to N2 last year with the quotient ranking, I find this solution fair,” says Eduardo Rodrigo, midfielder from Beauvais (11th in N2).

This will prevent playing every 3 days with the risk of injury.

It will also be a chance to access the National for a team without having been consistent for a whole season. ”

The coaches are more reserved like the coach of Sainte-Geneviève (3rd in N2).

"A championship is played with round-trip matches and we don't change like that during the season," says Emmanuel Dorado.

It would be better to play every 3 days, to finish the championships at the end of June and to cancel the Coupe de France. ”

The latter is for the moment maintained.

But until when ?
