Abdia was selected ninth in the last NBA Draft, much to the delight of the Wizards who claimed they did not believe it would fall into their hands.
"Danny was without a doubt the highest ranked player on our board, we are grateful he fell to 9th pick," general manager Tommy Shepherd said on the eve of the draft.
"He has great potential as a winger and as a secondary playmaker and we think he is going to be very flattered by the talent we have in the squad. He will be able to play in every quintet we put together, he is a proven player who played at the highest level in Europe."
Abdia himself said after the exciting election: "I had no expectations, I just wanted to be elected, no matter what choice, I was waiting for the worst case scenario. Choice 9 is an honor, the top 10 is an honor for me and for the country, I am excited to start a new journey. I do not think "Draft selection will see what my abilities are and see which players are better than me, each team needs it and I respect that, I was always ready for anything, I always knew there were surprises in the draft. Rest assured I will prove and play 100 percent, hoping one day they will regret it." .
