FSV Mainz played 1: 1 (1: 0) against TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

The team of coach Jan-Moritz Lichte scored in the third game in a row and occupied the relegation place in the table with five points.

Hoffenheim remains in midfield with nine points.

In the league, TSG has been waiting for a win since the 4-1 win against FC Bayern on matchday two.

Mainz took the lead thanks to a goal from Robin Quaison (33rd minute).

The striker scored from an offside suspicious position, but the goal was recognized after being examined by the video assistant.

After the break, Ihlas Bebou equalized for the guests (62nd).

In the final phase, Jean-Philippe Mateta from Mainz ran up to TSG goalkeeper Oliver Baumann alone, but shot free-standing at the left goal post (75th).

A little later, Dennis Geiger from Hoffenheim saw the red card.

The midfielder prevented a counterattack in his own half when he tripped substitute Karim Onisiwo with no chance of the ball.

Referee Sascha Stegemann assessed the action as a gross foul play from behind and decided to be sent off.
