Mick Schumacher continues to have excellent prospects of winning the title in Formula 2.
In the sprint race in Bahrain on Sunday, Schumacher only finished seventh in the Prema, but still increased his lead in the overall standings by two points: his British competitor Callum Ilott (UNI-Virtuosi) found himself after a collision and a drive-through penalty at the end of the Field again and remained without a counter.
On Saturday there was already a turbulent race on the circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain: Schumacher was able to work his way up from tenth to first place with an excellent start, but only finished fourth due to his tire strategy at the end of the race.
Ilott had finished in second place and moved closer to Schumacher.
In the sprint on Sunday, Schumacher started from fifth place, Ilott started in seventh just behind.
Towards the middle of the race, Ilott, who is the only driver besides Schumacher who still has a chance of overall victory, tried to overtake the German, but collided with another competitor while attempting to overtake and demolished the front wing.
The due pit stop and the penalty for causing the accident cost Ilott too much time, Schumacher fell back to seventh place with tires worn out from the battles for positions.
Haas change almost certain
Schumacher is 14 points ahead of the season finale, which will take place next week on the same track.
48 points are still to be awarded.
It is assumed that it will be the 21-year-old's last race in Formula 2: Schumacher is said to be facing a move to Formula 1 team Haas.
The racing team had decided to reassign the cockpits of the previous driver couple Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean.
In addition to Schumacher, the Russian Nikita Masepin is to be introduced as the new pilot, who finished second behind compatriot Robert Schwarzman in the sprint race in Bahrain.
An official confirmation of the new driver couple is still pending.
After the fire accident at Grosjean in Bahrain, the announcement could be delayed further, Haas now has other things to clarify.
