It is one of the oldest and well-worn rules in football: if you don't score in the front, you get one in the back.
Presumably every player was told these words in their youth.
They didn't seem to get through to FC St. Pauli by Friday evening.
In the 0: 1 (0: 0) against VfL Osnabrück, St. Pauli had promising opportunities in the first half.
A shot by Rico Benatelli was blocked (15th minute), the 2.01 meter tall Simon Makienok missed a free header (39th).
However, Hamburg had the greatest chance in the closing stages.
After a strong kick from Maximilian Dittgen on the left side, the ball rolled towards Kevin Lankford in the penalty area.
Instead of shooting him directly at the goal, he took the ball, continued to delay and then shot far past the goal (84th).
Osnabrück had not made a serious attempt at the goal of St. Pauli goalkeeper Robin Himmelmann.
Just two minutes after Lankford's chance, Himmelmann blocked a shot from Etienne Amenyido at the feet of David Blacha, who scored the winning goal (86th).
Osnabrück remains second in the table due to the late goal, St. Pauli stays in penultimate place after the seventh winless game in a row.
Darmstadt 98 has only known extremes in the past few weeks.
After the "Lilien" lost the last two games 0: 3 and 0: 4, they have now won 4: 0 (4: 0) against Eintracht Braunschweig.
The game was already decided after seven minutes;
Tobias Kempe gave Darmstadt the lead with a penalty (6th), Serdar Dursun increased just one minute later after a catastrophic back pass from Braunschweig central defender Michael Schultz (7th).
Braunschweig had to struggle with serious defensive errors.
The Eintracht defense also helped with the third Darmstadt goal: After a mistake in the coordination, the two teammates Jannis Nikolaou and Schultz headed against each other, the ball landed at Dursun, who converted (34th).
The evening was finally over for Schultz when he fouled Dursun just two minutes later and caused the next penalty.
Kempe converted again (36th).
