Paris coughs and loses Neymar, Ligue 1 more open than ever

2020-12-13T23:41:05.162Z

In a day without against OL, PSG cedes its throne to Lille and even points to third position.

At the Parc des Princes

Nothing is going well, place your bets!

If he is and remains the big favorite to his own succession in Ligue 1, it is clear that Paris Saint-Germain is anything but sovereign this season in national games.

There were the two initial defeats, against Lens (0-1) and OM (0-1), with half the team in the infirmary, and more points lost then, against Monaco ( 2-3), Bordeaux (2-2) and… again Lyon, which disposed of PSG this Sunday evening (0-1), at the Parc des Princes, at the end of the 14th day.

Already four setbacks for Thomas Tuchel's men, in a day without facing the Gones.

Without precision, without desire, without juice.

There was in fact not much positive to take away from the Parisian performance, in this cold December evening, under a British drizzle in the first period.

Symbol of this black hole, Neymar, as transparent against Lyon as he had been flamboyant in the middle of the week against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League (5-1).

Worse still: he came out with an injury, visibly hit in the ankle and evacuated on a stretcher ...

Four teams in two points

"It's up to us to continue as in the last matches," said the German coach before the game, explaining that "it's not good news" if the French championship is so tight, at least for Paris.

"It's our fault," he said again.

This time, it's a bit of OL's fault, which started the match very high and was effective, with Tino Kadewere's goal in the first period, before rounding off in the second half.

Decompression after qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League?

Perhaps.

Tiredness ?

Without a doubt.

But the result is there, and the ranking of the French championship is what it is this Sunday evening: after their victory against the Girondins (2-1) earlier in the day, the Lille are in the lead with 29 points, to tied with Lyon but with a better goal difference (+16 against +14).

PSG come third (28 pts), but could in fact be only fourth: OM (4th, 27 pts) could have six more points by winning their two late matches against Lens and Nice.

In the meantime, we therefore find the Top 4 at two points at the top of the table!

Montpellier comes next (5th, 26 pts), ahead of Monaco (6th, 23 pts), Angers (7th, 23 pts) and Rennes (7th, 22 pts).

Lille-PSG next Sunday

Obviously, the rivals of the capital club are not yet celebrating, like Christophe Gatlier.

“I don't think we can fight Paris for the title.

We have to fight to take points and stay on top, ”said the Mastiff coach on Sunday.

And adding, about the hot Lille-PSG next Sunday: “In my eyes, the Dijon match is much more important.

Paris may be the players' match, but Dijon is a decisive match for the future. "

The Parisians will face Lorient at the Parc des Princes in the middle of the week.

“PSG is above everyone when it plays 100%,” promised Rudi Garcia before this prestigious (and deserved) success in Paris, the first at the Parc in L1 for Olympique Lyonnais since 2007.

But when the vice-champions of Europe are not at 100%, as was the case this Sunday, physically, technically, tactically, the rest of the pack can possibly hope.

On one match, but maybe also on the whole season.

“To mention the title is not taboo.

But you have to be humble.

It would be lacking in mad humility to say that we are playing for the title, ”added Garcia before the meeting.

Failing to say it, the outsiders can dream about it a little.
