Last April, Hapoel Beer Sheva announced that it had reached an agreement with Nigel Hasselbaink on allowing a contract.

The Dutch striker had a contract for another season with a salary of about 350,000 euros a year with an option for another season, but the corona crisis meant that Be'er Sheva preferred to get rid of his contract, although he was soon bought for 1.5 million euros from Kiryat Shmona just two years earlier.

Allowing the contract was appropriate for both parties.

Club announcements said the player had asked to leave for personal reasons, but the real reason was a more attractive destination.

In those days, Hasselbaink was faced with an offer from a group in South Korea for a salary similar to that of Beer Sheva, and other groups in the East were interested in him and mentioned even higher sums.

Later the Koreans improved the offer and were willing to talk about a long-term contract as well.

Any other player would jump on the offer and look for the next flight to Seoul, but then Hasselbaink surprised the South Koreans when he demanded another hundred thousand euros, after hearing from friends playing in the East that the sums there were higher than offered to him.

The change in demands led to the Koreans being hurt and announcing that the player was getting off the episode.

The actor's entourage said this week: "Nigel believed he would reach salaries of at least 450-500 thousand euros, in the end he lost a lot of money, he had to take what he had in hand."

It was assumed that Hasselbaink would draw the conclusions from the explosion with the Koreans, but soon after he received offers from Turkey in amounts ranging around 300,000 euros per season, and here too he insisted and demanded higher sums.

While the corona crisis caused salaries in the entire industry to drop from month to month, the Dutchman continued to follow the train time and time again.

Even when the Turks raised the offer a little he was unwilling to listen.

Haselbaink began to digest the situation in the market, but even when he received a reasonable offer from a senior team in Cyprus, which participated in the Europa League qualifiers, he preferred to wait for a more attractive offer, and when he realized he would not find one and returned to the Cypriot option he found the team moving on.

Will a good season bring him back to the amounts he is used to?

Eventually the good offers ran out, and the long time that passed did not play in his favor.

Haselbaink has not played since March and as the months went by he had no demand at all, not even in small amounts.

Once he finally realized this, he agreed to Bnei Sakhnin's surprising offer to sign for one season for only $ 140,000.

Upon reaching his third term in the Premier League, Hasselbaink told Sakhnin: "I lost 250,000 euros because I left Be'er Sheva because I was sure I would get a better contract. I was at home too long and it deterred teams, now I have to give a good season if I want to return "And I believe I'm worth it."

At the age of 30, he will have to give a record season to Bnei Sakhnin for that to happen.
