The eighth finals of the National Basketball Cup kicked off tonight (Sunday) in a game in which Hapoel Haifa hosts Maccabi Tel Aviv.
This is the third official meeting between the teams this season, when in the quarterfinals of the Winner's Cup the Yellows won 74:83, and in the league game they came out with a home victory 75:81.
After the important victory over Basconia on Thursday that brought them back to life in the Euroleague as well, Maccabi Tel Aviv is reaching the state cup to return the trophy to the closet at Yad Eliyahu after three years.
The Yellows passed Maccabi Ashdod from the national team in the first round quite comfortably, even though they were far from their peak, and now they face a better opponent who has already made life difficult for them twice this season.
Yannis Sapropoulos has chosen to leave out of the squad Elijah Bryant, Dragan Bender and Chris Jones ahead of a busy week that will also include meetings against Wheelerban and Barcelona.
Omri Caspi did not dress either.
On the other hand, Hapoel Haifa arrives at the cup game in an excellent mood.
The Reds broke a streak of losses with an important home win over Maccabi Rishon Lezion after an impressive comeback, and Elad Hussein's players are closer to the top of the table than to the bottom struggles.
