SpVgg Unterhaching has been known for many years for its deep roots in the region and for its social commitment in many areas. But during this Advent season, the third division soccer team outdid itself and collected 50,000 euros for the “Sternstunden”, the Christmas fundraising campaign by Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) for children in need.

Unterhaching - A total of 11.91 million euros came together.

“It is always impressive to see the creative and committed way in which this donation amount comes about.

We are of course particularly pleased with this year's record result.

We can only take our hat off to that, ”said Sternstunden managing director Thomas Jansing.

The SpVgg Unterhaching had been beating the drum for the “Sternstunden” in the past few weeks.

Fans and sympathizers of the club could buy so-called ghost tickets for the game on Friday against 1. FC Kaiserslautern (which was won 2-0).

The entire proceeds from these symbolic tickets - the game naturally took place in front of empty spectators - went to the fundraising campaign.

The fans of the “Red Devils” also took part in the campaign and bought tickets for the guest block.

In addition, as every year, it was possible to pay into the donation account as normal.

This brought together the record sum of 50,000 euros in total, which Schwabl presented on Friday evening as part of the live broadcast of the BR star hour gala, “This sum makes us incredibly proud.

“Especially in this difficult phase for all of us, this amount is an incredible sign of the social strength of our association.

Many thanks to everyone who supported us so energetically and generously, ”said club president Schwabl proudly.

FC Bayern also took up the idea and sold ghost tickets for the “Sternstunden” for the home game against VfL Wolfsburg on Wednesday, December 16.

“As soon as the soccer family sticks together, something big can happen.

If you want to help needy children in the region, in the end it is not about club colors, but solely about the cause, ”said Schwabl.

It is already clear that SpVgg Unterhaching will also support the BR fundraising campaign in 2021.

“The great moments remain an absolute matter close to the heart for the whole club and are an integral part of our own social project, Haching is looking,” promised Schwabl.
