Barcelona suffered in the absence of their injured captain Lionel Messi to draw 1-1 at home to Eibar in the Spanish first-division football league in a match that saw Martin Braithwaite miss a penalty kick for the Catalan team today.
Eibar, who entered the match away from the relegation zone by one place, made a surprising lead in the 57th minute through his striker Kiki Carcia, before substitute Osman Dembli managed to equalize ten minutes later.
Messi returned to Barcelona from Argentina earlier today but watched the match from the stands where he is still recovering from an ankle problem and while the team performed well without him, he missed the effectiveness that he often provides to the team.
Braithwaite missed a penalty kick in the first half, after which the referee canceled a goal for him after reviewing the video technique, and the Danish striker wasted an opportunity to score the winning goal from close range when the ball bounced off his chest and failed to control it.
