A great opening for the Israeli delegation in the Masters Judo Competition that kicked off today (Monday) in Doha, Qatar.
Baruch Shmailov, who competes in the weight category up to 66 kg, secured a medal after defeating Harlan Genbold from Mongolia in the semifinals.
The morning of the battles of Shmaylov who seemed on the safe path to Tokyo, started with a victory over Vaza from the Georgian Gerashvili, then he defeated the Azeri Orkan Sparov and from there went on to another successful battle against the Kazakh Sardur Noriliev.
Tal Flicker, who competes with Shmailov for the only ticket to the Olympics in this weight category, lost in the first round to the Brazilian Daniel Carganin.
In the women, Timna Levy will face off in a battle for the bronze against Canadian Jessica Klimkeit.
