When the board of directors of the Professional Football League (LFP) validated, on Thursday, the principle of a call for tenders for the only lots left by Mediapro (8 Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 matches per day), the M 6 group proposes, in a letter to the LFP revealed by Le Figaro, to broadcast in clear some meetings while waiting for a new official broadcaster.

"Without wanting to interfere in the current discussions around the rights of Ligue 1, our channels not having the vocation of purchasing lots, we nevertheless wanted to tell you that we can provide you with our antennas for the broadcasting of such or such match, in order to offer visibility to your competition and its sponsors, to avoid any break in broadcasting, and thus ensure the necessary social link around the broadcasting of Ligue 1 ”, writes Nicolas de Tavernost, the president. from the M 6 management board, to Vincent Labrune.

The M 6 group already broadcasts, alternately with TF 1, the matches of the French men's and women's football team, including for these the qualifiers for Euro 2022 and the 2023 World Cup. on January 31, Ligue 1 is broadcast on Téléfoot and Canal +.

The Mediapro channel, which has committed to the Nanterre commercial court to broadcast matches until the end of the month to avoid the black screen, has nevertheless seen matches scheduled by the LFP on its antenna for the day February 3.

Revive French interest in the championship

Canal +, for its part, let it be known that it was giving back to the League its share (2 matches per day, Saturday at 9 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m.) from February 5.

The encrypted channel is calling for a new total call for tenders for the rights to Ligue 1 and has proposed, in the meantime, a pay-per-view broadcast (payment per match), on MyCanal.

Like M 6, the encrypted channel hopes, by putting this option on the table, to attract new subscribers.

As for the LFP, the broadcasting of Ligue 1 matches on a free channel could be appreciated as the opportunity to revive French interest in the French football championship.
