The Egyptian national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Handball Championship after tying the Slovenian team with a score of 25 each in the match that was held at Cairo Stadium in the third and final round matches of the fourth group of the main round of the World Handball Cup.

The tie lifted Egypt to the seventh point temporarily at the top of the group standings, while Slovenia rose to sixth point in the third place to officially leave the tournament.

Thus, Egypt is waiting shortly after the result of the match between Sweden and Russia to determine its position in the group. If Russia wins, Egypt will qualify in first place, and if Sweden wins or the match ends in a draw, the Egyptian team will qualify in second place.

Egypt hosts the 27th edition of the tournament, which is held in four halls without public attendance and amid unprecedented precautionary measures due to the outbreak of the Corona epidemic with the participation of 32 teams for the first time in history, as the number of countries participating in the tournament was previously 24 teams and the tournament in its current version includes six Arab countries, Algeria. And Morocco, Tunisia, Bahrain and Qatar along with Egypt.
