The Tölzer Löwen survived three undernumbered situations in Frankfurt and decided the game with a power play double with 4: 1.

Frankfurt / Bad Tölz - For the first time in the history of the DEL 2, the Tölzer Löwen managed to win the Löwen Frankfurt.

They have had their second win since Tuesday evening.

With a strong fighting performance, good outnumbered game, a power play double as a key and a clever management of the lead including empty net hits, they brought the three points 4: 1 into dry cloths.

"I'm very proud of the team that came out on top here with eight strikers," said Tölz coach Kevin Gaudet.

"That was maybe our best game of the season."

The special teams make the difference

The Tölzer, despite Max French's comeback after groin problems with a still small squad, initially sought his salvation on the offensive.

Two passes to get to the front, sometimes with five men on fore-checking.

Gaudet: “We have invested a lot.” And French's return turned out to be important: The Canadian lived up to his reputation as a goalscorer with a brace.

The Tölzer team was already successful in the initial phase of urgency, Reid Gardiner hit the post and Mario Lamoureux's chip attempt ended up with Bastian Kucis.

He had to fall off the ice after a collision with Lamoureux when he got the Tölzer's club on his neck.

For him came Patrick Klein, who remained the winner against Marco Pfleger and later cleared up after Lubor Dibelka's shot against Philipp Schlager in dire need.

But after a bad move in Frankfurt, Lamoureux had used the ricochet after Care's shot to lead.

But it quickly became clear that Stephen MacAulay, the ex-Tölz striker, should never be allowed to come free in front of the goal.

He executed Mitchell's pass to equalize.

Two goals that pulled Frankfurt's teeth

The game was then even.

Despite the intense game, the guests showed no fatigue, even survived three shortfall situations in quick succession, kept in the game by posts, strong saves by Maximilian Franzreb and concentrated play.

“The special teams on our side were excellent,” praised Gaudet.

They were decisive in the game.

For their part, the Tölzer Löwen demonstrated the rediscovered efficiency in the power play: twice outnumbered them on the ice, twice with a lot of pressure in front of the Frankfurter Kasten, two goals that pulled the home side's teeth.

First, Kenney Morrison hammered the target, nicely laid across by Philipp Schlager, to make it 2-1.

Then Max French threw the puck into the corner, untenable for Klein, the preliminary decision.

In the final section, the guests concentrated on the management of the tour, hardly allowing Frankfurt to come into play.

And Max French, with a good overview sent by Marco Pfleger, made the victory and third place in the table perfect for the Tölzer Löwen with his hit into the empty goal.
