New Chelsea coach: A day after the dismissal of Frank Lampard, the Blues announced today (Tuesday) the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, who was himself fired less than a month ago from his position as Paris Saint-Germain coach.
As you may recall, the names of past coaches and players were also mentioned as candidates for the position, including Avraham Grant and Andrei Shevchenko, but the German won the coveted and stressful position and signed for a year and a half, with an option for another season.
"I want to thank Chelsea for the confidence in me and my team," Tuchel said.
"We all have a huge respect for Frank Lampard and the legacy he has created at Chelsea. At the same time, I can no longer wait to join my new team and compete in the fascinating league in the world. It feels amazing."
Tuchel's first task will be to get Chelsea back to the top and especially to try to get Timo Werner and Kai Haberz back on track - the German star duo who arrived with very big money in the summer from Leipzig and Leverkusen, but meanwhile are considered a very big failure.

Tuchel, 47, joined the team from City of Lights in May 2018, after two successful years at Borussia Dortmund.
Immediately in his first season he won the championship with the Parisians, and retained the title the following season as well.
He also added wins in the French Cup (2019/20), the League Cup (2019/20) and in addition reached with the team until the Champions League final last season.
He began his coaching career in 2007 with the Augsburg reserve team, from which he moved after just one season to coach Mainz, with whom he recorded a huge success that earned him a contract at Dortmund, in which he signed as Jurgen Klopp's replacement in 2015.
