Denise Herrmann laid the foundation for her athletic career in cross-country skiing.
It wasn't until 2016 that she decided to become a biathlete.
Denise Herrmann
got into winter sports as a cross-country skier at the age of ten.
In 2007 the
German Ski Association banned
her for one year due to a positive Clenbuterol test.
The
athlete announced the
decision to be active as a
biathlete
from now
on in 2016.

Not to be forgotten are her performances at the Junior World Championships in 2007. In the classic sprint, the young cross-country skier made it to the finals and ultimately came in third.

Denise Herrmann's suspension and her return to sport
In 2007 Denise Herrmann suffered a setback.
The then 18-year-old was
banned
from the German Ski Association for one year
due to
doping
.
However, Herrmann had not acted deliberately, but instead took an appropriate cough syrup due to a persistent cough.
This contained the active ingredient Clenbuterol, which can also be used to accelerate muscle growth.
Therefore this meant a violation of the current doping guidelines of the WADA.
The Disciplinary Committee believed Herrmann had no knowledge of this, but showed no indulgence and nonetheless imposed the ban.
The German Ski Association invoked its strict zero tolerance policy with regard to
doping
.
In autumn 2008 the athlete returned and qualified for her first World Cup participation.
There she landed on rank 37 out of a total of 64. In 2014
Denise Herrmann
competed at the
Olympic Games
in Sochi and reached eighth place in the sprint.
In the team sprint, she and Stefanie Böhler just missed the medal spots.
In the
relay,
however, the future
biathlete
won bronze.
Denise Herrmann's athletic award and her switch to biathlon
The
then Federal President
Joachim Gauck presented
Herrmann with the
Silver Laurel Leaf
for her achievements at the
Olympic Games
.
Numerous other successes followed, including:
Ninth place in the overall World Cup 2014/2015
16th place in the Distance World Cup 2014/2015
Eighth place at the Tour de Ski 2015
Denise Herrmann
announced in April 2016 that she would switch to biathlon for the upcoming season.
She
promptly won
her first sprint at the
IBU Cup, because thanks to her running strength she managed to make up for her shooting errors.
During the 2017 European Biathlon Championships, Herrmann missed the medal positions by ten seconds and had to admit defeat with a fifth place.
But the next victory was not long in coming and followed at the IBU Cup 2017/2018. Her performance in the
sprint
brought her a
gold medal
and in the pursuit race the
biathlete
made third place.
A little later, the
biathlete
was allowed
to compete
in a
world championship
.
In 2019 the time had come and
Herrmann landed in second place
in
Östersund
.
In the pursuit, she finally crowned it all and became
world champion
.
