The Ski World Cup season is over for top athlete Aleksandar Aamodt Kilde. The Norwegian had a bad crash on Saturday and had to be taken away by helicopter.
Wengen – Last weekend in the Men's Ski World Cup had it all. Three speed races (2x downhill, 1x super-G) and a slalom were on the program in Wengen within four days. Above all, the two downhill races and the super-G took their toll.
Despite the first all-clear: Ski season over for top star Kilde
Marco Köhler crashed heavily in the first downhill on Thursday, as did Alexis Pinturault in the Super-G on Friday. Both racers tore their cruciate ligaments and have to end the season prematurely.
Aleksandar Aamodt Kilde will also not be competing this World Cup winter. Norway's team doctor Marc Jacob Strauss confirmed this to Norwegian broadcaster NRK: "The season is over. We hope he can be back next season. We are actually still happy about this outcome, we had feared much worse injuries."

Kilde underwent surgery in Bern on Saturday evening
The 31-year-old had a nasty crash on the second Lauberhorn downhill on Saturday shortly before the finish slope and had to be treated for minutes in the finish area. Kilde was then taken away by helicopter and taken to the hospital in Bern.
On Sunday morning, the first diagnosis followed. "Aleksander dislocated his shoulder and suffered a cut on his calf. He doesn't have any fractures, but he has several bruises," explained Norway's team doctor. Kilde had been operated on Saturday in Bern. After his crash the day before, the rumour was still circulating that the Norwegian had suffered an open lower leg fracture.

Kilde reports from hospital with mail after crash
Even though Kilde was probably lucky in his horror crash, the season has ended prematurely for the speed specialist and two-time vice world champion. Kilde reported to his fans on Sunday with a message from the hospital. Taking to Instagram, the 31-year-old shared: "I'm here patching up by the one and only Mikaela Shiffrin. Thanks for all the messages. I am grateful for all the words of love and support. I'll share more later."
Shortly after KIlde's fall, ZDF commentator Michael Pfeffer and expert Marco Büchel raged with rage live on television. For the two, the enormous strain on the athletes is the reason for the many falls recently. (kk
