The Toulouse Court of Appeal delivered its deliberation in the Chalureau case on Tuesday afternoon and decided not to retain the racist nature of the attack for which the MHR and Les Bleus second-row was appearing. His six-month suspended prison sentence was upheld for the assault. On November 14, prosecutor Pierre Mathieu asked for an eight-month suspended prison sentence, asking for the "manifest drunkenness" to be retained.

As a reminder, Bastien Chalureau had assaulted Yannick Larguet and Nassim Arif, two former rugby players, during a drunken evening on January 31, 2020. In November of the same year, the Montpellier player was given a six-month suspended prison sentence for "acts of violence with the circumstance that these were committed because of the race or ethnicity of the victim".

«The honour of Bastien Chalureau has been cleared."

The international had lodged an appeal and has since continued to deny any racist remarks. "I'm not a racist," he said several times during his appeal trial.

«

Bastien Chalureau's honour has been cleared, said his lawyer, Mr. Mendel. He's not proud of the violence committed, but he's not a racist and there is no need for justice to say so." Neither Bastien Chalureau nor either of his two victims were present on Tuesday at the Toulouse Court of Appeal.
