“See him at PSG? It’s a little more complicated”: Luca Zidane jokes about the future of his father, Zinédine

Highlights: Zinédine Zidane has been linked to the bench of PSG rather than his former club Marseille. His son Luca jokes that seeing him at PSG would be a great way to come full circle. “It’s not taboo to talk about my father for Marseille, but we don't talk about it too much. Whatever happens, he will make the decision on where he wants to coach, and we will be happy with his decision”

In an interview for the video media “Carré”, the son of “Zizou” notably mentioned the future, still pending, of the 1998 Ballon d’or

In the Zidane family, from the father to the four sons, we are supporters of OM.

Although the family has lived almost their entire life in Spain, it is the birthplace of all the boys in the family except the eldest, Enzo.

But paradoxically, none played there, neither the father nor the four footballers he raised and, since he became coach, Zinédine has been more linked to the bench of PSG than to that of his rival Marseille.

Seeing him there would, however, be a great way to come full circle, confided his second son, Luca, in an interview with the online media “Carré”: “It’s not taboo to talk about my father for Marseille, but we don't talk about it too much.

Whatever happens, he will make the decision on where he wants to coach, and we will be happy with his decision.

» Even if one career choice would hurt the family a little more than the others, inevitably: “See him at PSG?

(laughs) It’s a little more complicated…”

Coach since 2013, and his first position as assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, Zinédine Zidane has only known the bench of his former club... and has no longer been active since the end of the 2020-2021 season.

Since then, although his return is eagerly awaited, avenues have multiplied but none seem to materialize.

“Complicated to have the last name Zidane”

For his part, Luca, a goalkeeper trained at Real Madrid, now plays for SD Eibar (Spanish D2).

But he also dreams, one day, of the Marseille city: “It was and still is a dream to play for OM.

The atmosphere at the Vélodrome is what we love about football, it's this adrenaline (…) Marseille, it's our city, it's a pride to be from Marseille.

OM is the number 1 club in France, I will always be a supporter of OM, we all are in the family.

He, who spent his entire career in Spain, confides that he “already had touches in France”, but “it didn’t happen”.

“One day, later, I would like to play in France, it would be a great experience for me.

I hope one day to be able to taste French football.

In the interview, he also talks about this relationship with his family name, which is inevitably heavy to bear, especially when you embrace the same career as your glorious father.

Even if, in education, Zinédine “never played too much of a role as a coach” and “let us enjoy, have fun”, Luca admits that “It’s complicated to have the surname Zidane.

We all know everything our father did in football and it's hard to get to that level.

There are a lot of comparisons, people who say that we are in football thanks to our father.

All four of us were called pistons.

But it's the opposite: we have to do twice as much so that people talk about us, and not about him.
