Linus Straßer wins the slalom in Kitzbühel.
Not only the Munich player becomes emotional after the triumph, Felix Neureuther is also close to tears.
Kitzbühel – Linus Straßer has arrived at the Olympus of skiing.
The 31-year-old won the slalom in Kitzbühel on Sunday – and was only the fourth German to do so!
After the DSV ace climbed from fourth place to first place in the second run, he sank to his knees at the foot of his “local mountain” and enjoyed the triumph he had longed for.
Straßer once learned to ski in Kitzbühel
“I took part in my first race here and always dreamed of coming back as a World Cup rider and winning,” said the overwhelmed Straßer (31) with moist eyes, and confessed: “As always, the mission was the Gams, and now it’s the big one. And yet it is “a bit difficult to realize that it is really Kitzbühel.” The Munich native once learned to ski here and he also lives in neighboring Kirchberg.
The triumph visibly affected Straßer.
“The tears have already flowed.
I skied so well before Wengen and I'm generally skiing better than I've ever felt before.
In Wengen I was really fast, but it didn't work out and that's the mental game, believing in it, sticking with it and not pulling back.
And then having achieved it makes you extremely proud,” explained the 31-year-old

Last weekend, Straßer achieved an interim best time in the first run, and a week later his greatest success to date followed, which also touched Felix Neureuther.
With tears in his eyes, the ARD expert reported: “I have known the guy since he was a little boy and now you are the Kitzbühel winner.
The story is very, very well rounded.”

At Neureuther's first success 14 years ago, Straßer, a former member of the Kitzbühel Ski Club, was the forerunner at Ganslern. This time he already had a good feeling in the morning: he was sitting in a chair with the German flag and Neureuther's winning time on the lift ride to the start from 2014: “I thought to myself: good sign.” He turned out to be right.
