Four days ago, the star of the Philadelphia Sixers, Joel Embiid, thrilled with a season record in the NBA of 70 points.
Luka Doncic looked at him with appreciation, he was filled with motivation, and tonight (between Friday and Saturday), he left Embiid behind after a disrupted game against the Atlanta Hawks, in which he led the Dallas Mavericks to a 143:148 victory, scoring no less than 73 points .
crazy.
The Slovenian was unstoppable.
He scored 76% from the field, 61.5% from outside the arc and 94% from the free throw line.
Add to that 10 rebounds and 7 assists and you get a perfect game of someone who knows how to surprise every time.
He of course moderated the excellent evening of the opponent's star, Trae Young, who scored 30 points and handed out 11 assists.
The 73 points he scored ranks third in the NBA's shooting history.
The legendary Wilt Chamberlain of course leads the way with 100 points and also has a 78 point performance.
In second place is Kobe Bryant, a legend in his own right, with 81 points.
Doncic's record game, however symbolic, was held on the day the NBA marked 4 years since Bryant's untimely death.
At the press conference after the game, the Slovenian did not forget Black Mamba: "It's very special, we all loved Kobe... It's really special, on that day (4 years since his death), I wish he was here."
On his X Network page, Doncic changed his profile picture to that of Bryant and his wife who was killed with him in the helicopter crash, and the background picture is also of him with Bryant, in which they both appear to be laughing.
Kobe Bryant tragically passed away on January 26, 2020.
Luka Dončić scored a career-high 73 points on January 26, 2024.
Dončić: "It's very special, we all love Kobe man... it's special, on the same day, obviously I wish he was here."
His profile photo and header is still Kobe.

On the record itself, Luca added: "During the game I saw an Atlanta fan with shirt number 77, like mine, of course I laughed. I was close to reaching that number of points."
And why did he laugh?
Well, the Hawks made a trade on draft night and sent Doncic to Dallas.
