Serious falls occur while ski flying in Plancia.

A ski jumping ace shares his devastating diagnosis.

Planica – The ski jumpers’ end of the season was overshadowed by serious falls.

The Italian Giovanni Bresadola sustained serious injuries while ski flying in Planica.

Now the ski jumper reports from his sick bed.

DSV star still hopes for a mild outcome – ski jumper from Italy seriously injured

Bresadola flew 226 meters in the team competition on Saturday, but then fell after the jump.

His left knee immediately lost stability and the 23-year-old hit his head at high speed.

Bresadola initially remained lying down and was treated by paramedics in the exit of the huge facility.

Paramedics then took him to the hospital.

After a break of around ten minutes, the team flying continued.

“The knee doesn’t look good.

The way he stayed lying down - I wish him all the best and hope it's not too bad," said German ski jumper Karl Geiger on ZDF in his first reaction.

Unfortunately, the DSV eagle's hopes were not to be fulfilled.

Bresadola was seriously injured in his crash in Planica.

In an Instagram post, the 23-year-old wrote about injuries to his left cruciate ligament and meniscus after an MRI scan.

“An operation and a long summer await me,” Bresadola wrote alongside a photo from his hospital bed.

Bresadola, who now has a long break, would have qualified for the final flight this Sunday (9:30 a.m.).

On Thursday, Finn Eetu Nousiainen tore his cruciate ligament in a fall.

German ski jumper also reports from her hospital bed

The Slovenian top jumper Timi Zajc fell on Saturday a few minutes after Bresadola after a flight of 242.5 meters.

Zajc was supported by helpers, but was able to leave the run on his own two feet.

At the following team jumping award ceremony, the Slovenian had his right forearm wrapped in a bandage.

Like Bresadola, he was unable to compete in the final individual of the winter.

The German athlete Luisa Görlich, who fell on the normal hill, was operated on in Munich after tearing her cruciate ligament, as the German Ski Association (DSV) announced on Friday.

“The operation went very well and the athlete can hopefully start rehab soon.

We hope that Luisa returns to the ski jumps as soon as possible,” said sports director Horst Hüttel.

The German world champion reported from her hospital bed.

Future of the German ski jumping team uncertain

From a sporting perspective, the last World Cup weekend was not a success for the German ski jumpers.

14th place in the individual for Andreas Wellinger and sixth place in the team on Saturday were symbolic of the dreary end to the season.

After all, Olympic champion Wellinger ended the season in third place overall, with two World Championship medals in flying and second in the Four Hills Tournament.

The Bavarian wants to attack again next winter, preferably with national ski jumping coach Stefan Horngacher.
