Swedish biathlete Oskar Brandt ended his career at the age of 28. He announced the decision in tears.

Östersund – The 2023/24 biathlon season is over and for Oskar Brandt it was the last in his career. The Swede will end his career at just 28 years old, as he himself confirmed. “It’s damn hard. "I've had a lot of fun, especially in the last three years, but I haven't reached the level of performance that I have," he explained to the TV station

Brandt had his last outing at the Swedish Biathlon Championships last weekend in the mass start. With his surprising resignation, the Swedish association loses another athlete who was never able to reach the top in the world. The bloodletting among the Scandinavians continues, as Mona Brorsson and Peppe Femling also ended their biathlon careers.

The 28-year-old said goodbye to fans, friends and companions on his Instagram account. “After a few hard weeks of emotional conversations with loved ones, I can now say that the Swedish Championships will be my last competition as a biathlete,” he wrote shortly before his final competition.

“But damn, what fun I’ve had over the years. There is not a moment that I regret this. The community and all the people I have met and become friends with means everything to me! “All the experiences I’ve had, all the places I’ve been,” Brandt continued.

Oskar Brandt celebrated his debut in the World Cup in 2020, but was unable to assert himself decisively and mostly competed in the second-class IBU Cup.
