The fear gave way to relief. Victim of head trauma at the end of February during a Ligue 2 match against Guingamp, Bordeaux player Alberth Elis was left in a coma. The Honduran striker woke up a few days later.

According to France Bleu Gironde, he finally returned home this Wednesday, after more than a month of hospitalization.

Still according to the same source, the 28-year-old footballer would gradually regain his autonomy and a “normal” daily life. He even reportedly took up brisk walking and cycling again. To date, no neurological sequelae have been detected. His rehabilitation continues, in the private clinic he joined in March, but also at his home from now on.

His condition has been improving for several weeks.

His coach at the Girondins de Bordeaux, Albert Riera, already noted his progress on March 14 at a press conference: “He is starting to progress. He is good, he speaks, he understands everything but these are things you have to be careful about. But, we let his parents and the club communicate in more detail on this, because they are in the best position and those who visit him most regularly. We don’t forget him, he is always with us.”

Since the start of his convalescence, the striker has received the support of the entire Bordeaux club. Several of his partners and managers also came to his bedside during his stay in hospital. His recovery appears to be on track, although it is unclear whether he will be able to return to high-level football one day.
