Andrea Filser is breaking up – on her birthday of all days. The German ski racer declares her career over.
Upper Bavaria – Andrea Filser celebrated more than just reaching the next year of life on her 31st birthday. On Monday (March 25th), the German ski racer also announced the immediate end of her active career.

Andrea Filser has been in the ski circus since 2012 - but never among the world's best
“My career included many beautiful moments and successes that I always look back on fondly,” Filser is quoted as saying in a statement from the German Ski Association (DSV). “These experiences motivated me to fight back after every setback.”
Filser made her debut in the World Cup in 2012, but the Upper Bavarian never made it to the top in the world in the next decade. The bronze medal in the team at the 2021 World Ski Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo was her greatest success. In the same year, Filser was crowned German champion in the giant slalom. She had already won the slalom title in 2018.

Andrea Filser was repeatedly seriously injured
Still, a remarkable career when you consider the serious injury setbacks Filser had to deal with again and again and at times had to start “all over again”. In 2013 she suffered a fracture of her lower leg, three years later Filser tore a cruciate ligament and was then out of the race for a long time. In 2022, an ankle injury forced her to take a break.
But Filser fought her way back from the sickbed to the ski slopes again and again and finished in the top 30 16 times during her career. This marked the DSV's third retirement this season. This winter, before Filser, Josef Ferstl and Thomas Dreßen had already declared their active careers over.

“Last season, despite my enormous commitment to the race, I was unable to reach my performance limits and therefore not achieve my personal goals,” said Filser. The decision was “not easy for her, as racing was my great passion. I had a really nice time and was able to gain a lot of valuable experience as a ski racer.”
