Thomas Müller shoots an emotional video in a special location
The 34-year-old, who holds the player record for German championships with twelve titles, posted a clip
on his
channel that shows him in front of the Munich venue. He also noted: “Before the Champions League game against Arsenal London, I visited the statue of FC Bayern legend Gerd Müller at the Allianz Arena. The nation's bomber was the greatest FCB has ever had. Let `s go you Reds. Wednesday counts!”
In a moved and reverent tone, Thomas Müller reports that the legendary namesake acted as his mentor at the beginning of his professional career: “He was one of my early supporters.” What this means is: Gerd Müller worked as an assistant coach at the FC Bayern's second team, where he also met the young Thomas Müller from 2008 onwards. “Gerd always gave me great tips, especially when it came to the offensive game, especially the game in the penalty area,” enthuses the 2014 world champion, who could go on a farewell tour in 2025, looking back.
Gerd Müller: Not just a sporting inspiration for his namesake
But the “Bomber of the Nation”, as Gerd Müller, who died in August 2021, is still affectionately called by his fans, impressed him not only in terms of sport, said Thomas Müller. His coach at the time was also “really great” in human terms.
Above all, the club for which both were or still are active for so long benefited greatly from the Bundesliga's current record goalscorer, emphasizes the younger Müller. Gerd Müller was “an absolute guarantee and an important cornerstone, if not the most important, for FC Bayern.” He also states: “His 365 goals have brought the club and me to where we are today. Thank you, Gerd.” The Gerd Müller statue, which was created by the artist Karel Fron and which now stands on the esplanade of the Allianz Arena, was inaugurated in September 2023.
