Unai Emery, regular in continental games and four-time winner of the Europa League, could add a new jewel to his collection. The Aston Villa coach qualified his team for the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League, alongside Fiorentina, Olympiakos and Club Brugge. The final will take place on Wednesday May 29, 2024, in Athens.
Before that, the English will have to get rid of Olympiakos. The first leg will be played on Thursday May 2 at Villa Park. The return leg is scheduled a week later, on the 9th, at the Karaïskakis stadium in Piraeus. During the quarter-finals, Aston Villa eliminated Lille, after the penalty shootout (2-1, 3-4 on the tabs), this Thursday at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium. For their part, the Greeks also had to wait for the outcome of the penalty shootout to eliminate Fenerbahçe, in Turkey (1-0, 2-3 on the tabs).
In the other semi-final, Fiorentina will face Club Brugge. The first leg will take place on Thursday May 2 in Florence. The return to Belgium will take place the following week. During the quarter-finals, Jonathan Ikoné's Fiorentina defeated Viktoria Plzen this Thursday in Italy (2-0 after extra time). Bruges won more easily against the Greeks of PAOK Salonika (0-2).
