When it doesn't want, it doesn't want. The Nantes residents, who remained on a series of eight defeats in a row at home, added a ninth to the list this Saturday afternoon during the 30th day of Ligue 1. However, they had a great opportunity to break the curse against at a Stade Rennais in a bad situation (three defeats in the last five championship matches), but the Canaries remained silent offensively (0-3).
Both teams returned to the locker room with a goalless draw after the first half. The only real opportunity was to the credit of Rennais, on a shot from Désiré Doué deflected by Alban Lafont who hit the bar then the post before rebounding just in front of the line (27th).
In the second half, the visitors launched an attack on Antoine Kombouaré's players and it ended up paying off. Arnaud Kalimuendo opened the scoring with a curling shot from the right (67th), before Benjamin Bourigeaud made the break from a penalty (76th). Amibe Gouiri sealed the fate of Nantes at the end of the match (90th + 1) after a sublime one-two with Doué.
Unable to win a single point at home since its victory against Nice (1-0) on December 2, FC Nantes remains stuck in 14th place in the standings with only five points ahead of Lorient, the first to be relegated. Rennes, for its part, is relaunching in the race for Europe and moves up to 7th place, one point behind sixth place occupied by Lens who will play this Sunday.
