Before the World Climate Change Conference in Madrid, thousands of people around the world wanted to take to the streets again for more climate protection on Friday. This is also joined by some scientists in remote Arctic and Antarctic regions - in a sense, they are on the ice rather than on the streets.
Both on the Arctic ice in front of the German research vessel "Polarstern" and in front of the German Neumayer research station in the Antarctic, scientists demonstrated on Friday for more climate protection. This was shown by images shared by a scientist from the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) in Bremerhaven on Twitter.
Our brave colleagues on the @AWI_Media RV #Polarstern @MOSAiCArctic campaign so back the @globalclimatestrike! So polar researchers from the South to the North thank @FridayForFuture for bringing attention to our science! # UniteBehindTheScience # RestartClimate Photo: Jakob Stark pic.twitter.com/GwviveT5fQ

The photos showed how a dozen or so scientists kept up signs and posters in front of the ship and the station.
Yay, our colleagues at the #Antarctic @AWI_Media research station Neumayer have started the #GlobalClimateStrike! more on the subject
The "Polarstern" is frozen on an ice floe through the Arctic for the "Mosaic" exploration expedition. On the ice of the floe, the scientists have reached a research camp, with the help of various measurements the climate system in the Central Arctic is to be researched from there. For a year, the ship should drift with the sea ice through the Arctic Ocean.
In Germany alone, demonstrations in more than 500 cities were planned for Friday according to the climate movement Fridays for Future.
