An SNCF agent died and two were injured, one of whom is in serious condition, after being struck by a TER on Wednesday morning near Strasbourg, we learned from concordant sources.
The three agents, who "were working on the tracks", were struck by a TER coming from Nancy and in the direction of Strasbourg "a little before Vendenheim at 09:38", told AFP the communication service of SNCF in Alsace. "One person died, another is in absolute emergency and a (third) injured leg," according to a police source. The results have been confirmed by SNCF.
“Emotion when I learned of the accident that occurred this (Wednesday) morning on the Nancy-Strasbourg line. I send my condolences to the relatives and colleagues of the deceased agent @SNCFReseau and all my thoughts to the two injured agents, ”tweeted the Secretary of State for Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari.
An investigation is opened
The circumstances of the accident are not known, said the SNCF and the police source. "Rescuers, authorities and the deputy territorial director of SNCF" moved to the scene of the accident, according to communication from SNCF.
A judicial police officer went to the site to make the first findings, according to the police source. "There was a controller on board (the train) to take care" of the 13 passengers, who were not injured in the collision, added the SNCF.
The train affected by the accident was immobilized and "the other trains are running in prudent mode", said the SNCF. The investigation was handed over to the federal police. An internal investigation will also be carried out by SNCF to determine the circumstances of the accident.
