The electric mountain bike pioneer - Speechless - is doing it again with the most fascinating thing that has happened in recent months in the field

OK. After about 110 miles on the new Levilos SL (hereinafter, "SL") (I can say with complete confidence that I "understood" these bikes. And I discovered them not necessarily in long and tedious degrees, where most E-Bikes star, but in twisting slopes, between Trees and rocks, serpentines and low branches - in the places where the enduro / aggressive trails dominate - with a comparison that can't be avoided to the new stampi from the same brand, so what is the SL?

The concept and structure

Many anatomical riders shy away from electric mountain bikes. In part because they are heavy and clumsy and sacrifice much of the joy of life of flickabile mountain bikes with a weight exceeding 10 kg more on parallel pedal bikes. On the other hand, the engines of 2020 are definitely something to not believe - the power and ranges that reach them today make the use of reinforcement modes most enticing. And miles versus miles - it's a ton of fun and meaningful little physical effort. Which makes many purebred riders disgusted and called them - as we do with "electrocution" in condescending derision.

Speechilized realized this and produced the SL. With 29-inch wheels, 118.5-cm wheelbase, 150mm front and rear moves - and a smaller physical and reduced electric propulsion system. To leave the SL with reasonable weight and driving features like regular aggressive trail bikes - but also provide torque and assistance with long degrees and technical sections. Technological advances, along with lessons from previous editions of LEVO - have created a very effective and energetic system capable of - in proper management - at the ranges of its senior nurses. And on the other hand - even without any reinforcement at all, you can still pedal.

From the side of the chassis looks very similar to the Stumpy. Includes a sexy one-sided beam that parallels the shock absorber and contributes a lot to the structural rigidity of the front chassis triangle. My COMP version comes with the brand's M5 aluminum chassis. As mentioned, the rack is 150 mm at each end through the manufacturer's familiar FSR. The shock absorber behind is the FOX dps performance and the front of the FOX Rhythm fork (only available as an OEM) with 34mm legs, GRIP reliever and 150mm walk.

If I'm still in the chassis, I'll tell you about the battery inside it and the capacity of 320 watts / hour - and this drives an electric motor with a output of 320 NM and 240 watts. The entire management system is also integrated into Top-Tube and all its operation is done with the help of a tiny control unit with a left hand thumb and / or control just below the steering head. There are no screens, complex views or anything substantial that could crack in the fall. The app's Bluetooth interface allows for tremendous resolution of settings, documentation of rides, system health monitoring and "smart" reinforcement mode that WALK - turned out to be brilliant.

Let's go back for a moment: the Exusion Fusion Seat Rod with 150mm (varies in size), SRAM Guide R stops with 4-piston calipers and 200mm discs on the front and 180mm on the rear. Power transmission through a full set of SRAM NX with 12 gears - on the front plate of 30 and behind a cassette of 11-50. Aluminum rims 30 mm wide, lace-up for speilize hubs (boost of course on each side) and great butcher's tire rims 2.3 wide. correct. Not 2.5 not even 2.8 - 2.3. Which is a thick hint of the slimy nature of this bike.

The package closes with 780mm aluminum handlebars, a short stem with graceful and useful SWAT, and a seat - all from the brand's home. It seals a purposeful and BS-free accessory package whose primary purpose is to provide the experience without tearing the pocket overly.

The weight (which I weighed) is ready to ride with a jeep and pedals is 19.0 kg and the price for the COMP version is NIS 24,995. When the family has another 3 versions all with a carbon chassis, the same propulsion system is different but different. The price closed at NIS 51,995 for the dream version with end accessories.

Riders

So far I have been impressed with three familiar singles - so that you will have some benchmark to compare. The paths were Zechariah, Gilboa and Timna. In addition to these, there were also some shorter local rides to close the set-up and run the new bike.

For quite some time now, I "cracked" the stops from the Guide series. A few minutes of fasting and their braking power and modulation rise to another level. I made the set up for racks a little tougher than the recommendation and cleaned up the clean wiring anyway (everything goes through the chassis) of the cockpit. Full charging and on the go.

With the 29-inch wheels and 150mm of the SL course, these singles eat with great appetite. And there are not many technical elements that would have been an impossible challenge - whether they were technical degrees in the Gilboa sections, rock gardens or a combination of super-quicksand and planted rocks in the colorful timber. The extra power of the engine is very noticeable - the power is instantaneous and does not flare and often helped me to cope with tight turns and degradation - or to lift a wheel over a tree trunk that fell in winter. Unlike the 700 NM bikes - which make you lazy in shifting the gear - the SL rear transporter works more to maximize the power integration between the rider and the engine.

Already in Zechariah - down and down the rocky gardens - I realized the playful nature of this bike. They are very balanced and quickly planted - but very easy to swing a front wheel in Manuel, thanks to short chain struts of just 435 mm. Most of the riding there was with intermediate assistance - TRAIL - and I finished one coffee when another 70% of the battery was left and my cycling shirt was sweat dry.

In Gilboa I already worked more. I wanted to try the "smart" riding mode in the app. I set her up for 4 hours riding and that I want to end up with a 10% battery. I got a lot of power to help the aliyah - and sewed the rocky sections of it completely without a problem. There was work but I did not suffer. I discovered the bike downhill. There they flew - ironing the rocks, skipping the drones and zigzagging into the doldrums, fast and precise steering - and consistent, strong braking. Very impressive. I completed Gilboa (about 45 km) with 20% battery, so the last 100 meters for the car I celebrated on a luxurious BOOST.

Always avoid a lovely - 37 miles of the most beautiful wilderness we have, plus a physical and technical riding challenge. This time I rode without the management system when most of the time I was in ECO mode and only when I felt too sweaty did I tickle the switch to TRAIL. The power difference is immediately noticeable and the sweat dries. The slopes were just lovely and I was torn between having to look at the single and wanting to pump as much of this landscape as possible. The Fox before - presumably - worked great. Absorb the surface and follow it accurately. The grip in every situation was great - the brakes also held beauty down the long slopes. In the faster sections it was possible to get very good speed - and the power cut off at the top is almost noticeable (not like the "wall" of the big bikes). The power advantage is manifested in soft and natural shuffle or shuffle or shuffle. But the confidence they gave in the rounds, quick change of direction, choosing instant lines and avoiding the many stones that fell on the single - was above and beyond what was expected. I finished this ride with 30% battery.

logistics

I live on the third floor with no elevator. I already had the pleasure of bringing electric mountain bikes to the apartment. It's not fun. So the weight advantage of the SL is definitely reflected in this dimension - and they don't tear me down in any repetition from riding.

The battery is smaller and therefore recharges faster. In two hours - two and a half hours the charge returns to 100%. Without warming up and with a simple red light indicator that turns green and that's it. Control patients? You can get real-time notification through the app.

In summary

Before I even mention the overall quality of this bike. That's the list very much. With internal wiring, a brilliant magnet and sensor placement, and other small nuances of attention and non-circular corners that make a big difference. The feel is a premium feel for a premium product even though it is the SL version.

And these bikes meet the manufacturer's definition of being "steamy with BOOST". In riding, they are lightweight and hide the weight in any situation and certainly in elevations. The power that comes is very effective, instant and improves the rider who can decide how much he wants to put in the effort. Think aggressive downhill bike trails - with the agility, uptake and braking expected from the genre. The range allows for more rans (there is also an option for extra battery and 50% increase in range) or incredible speed in fast XC clips. All this without losing the light magic of ordinary bicycles.

They are such fun to get me out on spontaneous rides just like that at the end of a work day. Bikes that make you want to leave everything and go out at a rush - they are a victory for me.
